Fan Bai is currently a Master of Architecture student at the University of Michigan, driven by a deep passion for architectural representation. Fan’s work delves into innovative approaches to visualizing architectural concepts, using intricate drawings, compelling videos, and other visual mediums to bring ideas to life.

Beyond architecture, Fan is captivated by visual and digital art, always seeking ways to integrate these techniques into architectural design. Fan’s aim is to push the boundaries of visualization and create immersive spatial experiences. Additionally, she is sensitive to color, which informs her design approach and allows her to create visually striking and emotionally engaging work.

17 THE SUBURBAN TABLE: A GAME OF UNFAIR PLAY

Type: Innovative Design

Set on an ordinary table in an extraordinary place, The Suburban Table transforms familiar landscapes into a stage for critical reflection. Players navigate a gameboard modeled after suburban sprawl—cul-de-sacs, strip malls, foreclosed homes - where victory is skewed by systemic inequality, real estate speculation, and the myth of the “American Dream.” Luck favors the powerful; strategy alone cannot overcome structural unfairness.

By mimicking the mechanisms that concentrate wealth and marginalize others, this playful yet unsettling game challenges players to see suburbia not as a neutral backdrop, but as a space built on exclusion, zoning, and monopoly logic.
